A 78-year-old man died after his car hit a tree in Keysborough on Sunday.

The man, from Frankston, was travelling alone on Perry Road about 7pm when his Toyota Camry veered to the left and hit a tree.

Senior Constable Marie Kranidis said residents nearby came to the man’s assistance and the jaws of life were used to remove him safely from the car.

Keysborough and Springvale Fire Brigades also attended.

Sen Const Kranidis said the man was taken to The Alfred hospital due to injuries to his chest, hands, legs and feet but died early Monday morning.
